Dave J Bermingham

Dave J Bermingham resides in Jamaica Plain, MAand recently earned an MDes; Fashion, Body & Garment from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, mentored by artist Nick Cave. Previously, he received a BFA in Fashion Design from Massachusetts College of Art. Bermingham approaches art-making from a "homo-historic" perspective, negotiating queer identity within larger historic and ancestral narratives and creating bodies of work ranging from found-material sculpture - to performance - to garment and fashion design.

Bermingham was born in Quincy, Massachusetts and considers his youth steeped in the complex of modern narratives of New England to be the foundation for his continued interest in identity politics. He is co-founder of the Boston LGBTQIA Artist Alliance and the former Industrial Stitchers Guild. His work has been shown in New York, Chicago, Boston, and St. Louis. Bermingham has held a diverse array of positions at several cultural institutions including SAIC, MassArt, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MassMOCA, and is currently an Adjunct Instructor of Fashion Design at Mount Ida College in Newton, MA. As drag performer Aquanette Prudence Jones, Bermingham has fallen off many stages in venues ranging from dive bars to repertory theaters.
